On Saturday, March 7, 2009, I had the privilege to present a Key to the City of Gering to Celesta Allen who lives at Northfield Villa. She had celebrated her 107th birthday on March 2nd. I do believe Celesta is Gering's oldest resident. She is now wheelchair bound, but still pretty sharp. The flowers for the occasion was a bouquet of 107 roses. About 100 people turned out for her party on Saturday. She is the mother of Hersh Baird of Scottsbluff.
Celesta was also honored by Senator Harms and the Nebraska State Legistrature with a Legislative Resolution acknowledging her 107th birthday.She has to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest person in Nebraska.
